Watersheds
What is a watershed?
A watershed is an area of land that drains into a particular body of water. For example, the map cut out you see is of the Croisan Creek watershed. Water, such as rain or ice, which falls within the boundaries of this watershed will eventually enter Croisan Creek.
There are ten watersheds shown on the Salem-Keizer map. Each watershed is shown in a different color, and they include Claggett Creek, Glenn-Gibson Creeks, Mill Creek, and Pringle Creek. The yellow line represents Salem's City limits. Note that there is not a single watershed that is completely contained within the City's boundaries. This means that the activities of surrounding communities also have an influence on the water passing through Salem's streams.
