Indoor Water Conservation Kits
Retrofitting indoor fixtures with low-flow model can reduce the gallos of water used per minute (GPM) in daily activities. The indoor conservation kit contains:
- Earth TM Massage showerhead (1.75 GPM)
- Duel setting touch flow kitchen aerator with swivel (1.5 GPM)
- Bathroom sink aerator (1.0 GPM)
The showerhead and faucet aerators will reduce the amount of water used per minute.
- Leak detection tablets
The leak detection dye tablets provide a simple method to determine if your toilet(s) has a silent leak.
- Niagara adjustable flapper
- Flow meter bag
The flow meter bag can be used to determine how many gallons per minute your current fixtures use. This allows you to calculate the amount of water you will save by installing the new fixtures.
By retrofitting your existing fixtures, you not only save water but save moneey on your next water bill.
Leak Detection Tablets and Drip Gauges
It is estimated that 25% of U.S. homes have a leaking toilet. Many leaks go undetected because they are silent.
- Leak detection dye tablets
The leak detection dye tablets provide a simple method to determine if your toilet(s) has a silent leak.
The drip gauges are used to calculate how much water is lost due to a dripping fixture. A leaking fixture can waste over 20,000 gallons per year if not fixed. A dripping fixture is not only annoying, but also costly!
One Inch per Week Lawn Watering Gauges
Most people tend to OVER water their lawns. A healthy, green lawn only needs approximately one inch of water each week. More than that is a waste of drinking water. Our One Inch per Week lawn watering gauge is an easy and accurate way to determine how much water is applied to your lawn.
Hose Nozzles
Drinking water is often wasted during outdoor activities. Hose nozzles help minimize water waste when washing the car and watering landscaped areas. The nozzles include seven different spray patterns and a comfort grip.
These materials are available to City of Salem water customers only. They are available while supplies last.
Enviromental Friendly Car Wash Kits
Soaps and detergents can be harmful to aquatic organisms, such as Chinook salmon. Suds that enter Salem storm drains go untreated into Salem creeks and the Willamette River. The car wash kit allows water to be pumped into the wastewater system to be treated before it returns to the creeks and river. The WET team is working with local businesses to offer these kits and a space to groups doing car was fundraisers.
Trees to Creekside Residents
In 2003, the City of Salem instituted the Free Tree Program in order to provide shade and to increase the amount of native vegetation bordering Salem's streams. Streamside property owners have the opportunity each year to receive a free tree or shrub from a local nursery. The 2005 program will have four tree species, as well as several shrub species available for planting.
